What is “tbeprez”?

“Tbeprez” is short for “Temple Beth El president”.  The name refers to Temple Beth El in Charlotte, NC, a Reform congregation with approximately 1,100 family members, and its president, currently Moira Quinn Klein.  We created the blog to have timely, interactive conversations with fellow congregants about Temple affairs.

Excellent idea to bring even more technology to Temple communication!

Thanks, Bill. I hope other congregants will take advantage of the added opportunity for dialogue.

I have heard there has been a discussion of the ark we currently have at TBE. Some congregants are concerned the ark will be stored. Hopefully it will be used by another synagogue one day. I have always loved looking at the ark with the windows as a backdrop. I was a bit saddened initially to hear it would not fit into the plans for the new sanctuary. But after some thought, I think it is kind of special to know this ark as we have known it will be a part of the sabbath , days of prayer and many celebrations for another community. I can take joy sharing this ark with another congregation.

Ellen and I aren’t so happy the ark is finding a new home. We have considered it the focal point of our sanctuary, and are disappointed it won’t be included in our new building. Something with real emotional value is being lost – hopefully not to be replaced by something “modern.”

Having said that, I would love to see some modern technology included. I think there is something to be said for being able to televise high holiday services to the areas where ushers are working. I have ushered for years, and have always felt badly I can’t be part of the entire service. I really appreciated the ability to follow along while being of service to congregants.

I think it would be useful to include a link to the Temple Beth El web site from the blog.
